LLM (Large Language Model)

AI model trained on billions of texts to generate language. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity read your reviews to answer questions about your brands.

Full definition

A Large Language Model (LLM) is an artificial intelligence system trained on massive volumes of text to understand and generate natural language. The best-known examples are GPT-4 (OpenAI / ChatGPT), Gemini (Google), Claude (Anthropic), and the models powering Perplexity. These systems answer questions, generate content, summarize documents, and increasingly, advise buyers in their decisions.

What is less known to merchants: LLMs index and memorize customer reviews published on the web. When a user asks ChatGPT "what is the best luggage brand?", the LLM synthesizes information available online, including customer reviews. A brand with 847 well-written, 4.9/5 reviews with responses is far more likely to be cited favorably than a brand with no reviews or unmanaged negative reviews.

This phenomenon, called Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) or GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), is redefining the rules of search ranking. Brands that accumulate a corpus of positive, authentic, and well-contextualized reviews benefit from favorable citation in LLM responses, bringing a new type of qualified traffic: users who go through ChatGPT or Perplexity before buying.

Concrete example

A user types into Perplexity: "Best French organic cosmetics brand for sensitive skin". Perplexity analyzes available sources, including Trustpilot review pages and Google listings. A brand like Patyka, with 1,200 reviews at 4.8/5 specifically mentioning "sensitive skin", "certified organic", and "fragrance-free", has every chance of being cited first.

The difference from classic SEO: the LLM does not cite the most technically optimized page, it cites the brand whose testimonial corpus is richest, most consistent, and most credible. It is real reviews and responses that matter, not keywords in the source code.
